Shutting Down a Node

The node halt command shuts down a node. The command has an optional -reason parameter that specifies the reason for the shutdown; this reason is logged and can assist with future troubleshooting efforts. You can force a shutdown by specifying the -inhibit-takeover true parameter with the command; forcing a shutdown prevents storage failover from occurring before the node shuts down.

If you do not specify the -node parameter, the command shuts down the node on which the command is run.

The following example shuts down the node named dinsdale for hardware maintenance:

node::> node halt -node dinsdale -reason
'hardware maintenance'
